October 31, 2007: Respice finem

I'm done. Period. For now. How to celebrate? Pilfer yet more Halloween candy? Cry? Sleep? Blog!

October 29, 2007: Minor Milestone

I'm done with the major work on More Than This and dedicating the next two days to giving the manuscript the tiny little flourishes that only occur to me after the real work is done. And so there you have the process of writing a novel.

October 23, 2007: Ad infinitum

Is October ever going to end? I have one eye on a calendar and the other on the word count tally of More Than This (August 2008/Touchstone Fireside). Come November 1, I'm taking a bit of time off, doing some promo work for Life Over Easy and going to a ton of movie matinees...and then starting my fourth book.

October 17, 2007: Lucky 13

Still typing away on my revise, polish of More Than This (Touchstone Fireside, August 2008) and even with the trimming I plan to do before I send it off, it looks to be my longest novel yet. Which makes sense since it tells the story of two separate people. My editor, Sulay, said it would be longer than my first two and she was right.

October 13, 2007: Local Road Trip

I'll be making the rounds to my near-by Barnes & Noble to sign copies of Life Over Easy in the coming weeks. I love BN and they have been great to me and my two books. They also have a very handy stock check feature on their newly redesigned site to make it easy to swing by and pick up a copy of whatever book you might be hankering for. Also had a brainstorming cover session for More Than This with my super editor Sulay Hernandez at Touchstone Fireside and I said I was all over a hyper saturated fair tale-ish for grown ups concpet like Amelie and Pushing Daisies. We all know how huge of an impact the cover has on the success of a book (ahem, UIA) and I have high hopes I'll be seeing something truly special for More Than This.

October 12, 2007: Inspiration!

Isn't it great when something just clicks and makes everything else fall into place? Yes, it is! All of sudden work on More Than This has turned into as close to pleasure as it can be because I've finally figured out (with a dozen days to go until my due date) what I need to do to and it just feels so right. It might just be the drugs talking but at this point who cares?!

October 10, 2007: No Freaking Out Allowed

I'm taking a forced break from revising More Than This (Word issues) and have dedicated some brain power to figuring out my mini-media blitz to resuscitate Life Over Easy. I'm making a list of editors and others to send copies out to and since I'm doing it on my limited dime, I have to be selective with who I reach out to. As soon as my on-going software issue is resolved, I'm jumping back into my lovely story and not letting myself get overwhelmed by all the ideas and changes I want to make. The ultimate goal is turning in the best novel I can and as the hand lettered sign on the wall opposite says "Shut up and Type."

October 03, 2007: Crunch Time

I'm hard at work on my third manuscript but worrying about how my second book (yes, that's it left) is doing. And the prognosis, if you put any stock into amazon.com numbers, is not too rosy. I've been relieved to see it in some of the bookstores that didn't carry UIA (in my opinion they just didn't get the cover and I can't blame them) but other than the noise I've been making, I'm not sure anyone else, like my publisher, is contributing to the getting the word out. So here's where I have to be the business woman as well as the writer and figure out a game plan. All I can say is that it involves whisks.
