March 31, 2008: PR Plans
Had a lovely call with Jamie over at Touchstone on plans for getting the word out for More Than This (Touchstone, August 2008) this morning. I may finally hold that book launch party people are always asking if I'm going to have. There are plans for reaching out to the media (from print, web to TV) and I'm going to Book Expo America. All in all, I'm very impressed at the effort and thought that's going on in New York. I [heart] Touchstone!
March 30, 2008: Table Meetings
What better way to say goodbye to March than with a writer meeting. I'm hosting Anne and Heather here and Paula via Skype. So I'll be putting out a spread of cheeses, water crackers, bread, veggies and dip (not for me, I don't like ranch) and something sweet.
March 27, 2008: Down to Business
It's been pretty quite around here since last fall when I did all sorts of things I wouldn't normally do, like teaching a class and organizing an author panel. That's going to change. This April I have three events, one still to be confirmed and I'm organizing a big book and author bonanza at my favorite store ChimMaya in May the day before Mother's Day. Interested? March 18, 2008: Reading and 'Riting
I've come into possession of an engrossing pulpy murder cop story thriller novel, sort of a longer, more wordy paper printed version of Law & Order: SVU. Even though I'd already began The Geographer's Library which is very good and I look forward to resuming once I scratch this nasty itch. As for the writing, closing in on 27,000 words on the revise of the first third and hope to start the next third next Monday. Yawn.
March 12, 2008: Little Differences
With my first to books my editor, Sulay then at Kensington, did the majority of the legwork to get the word out on them, especially for Underneath It All as she'd moved on by the time Life Over Easy came out this past October. Now that she's my editor at Touchstone, she's treating me to all the perks that come with having her very own office. She's hooked me up with the able Jamie in the publicity department who has contacted me months, months!, ahead of More Than This coming out this coming August. We're going to have a little chat in early April to hash out some plans for getting the word out. Next to getting two, two!, blue editing pencils along with the first pass copy edited manuscript of MTT, I can say I'm pretty darn impressed all around. And if you think that's something trivial, pencils?, just wait until you publish a book. Publishers are like boyfriends in a lot of ways. Some are keepers others are not.
March 08, 2008: Easy As 1, 2, 3...4
I'm still working away on Book #2, around 20,000 words in on the first draft, and I'm also polishing a partial for a sexy romantic thriller as well as giving one final look-see to a completed manuscript and waiting to hear from my agent on the status of the YA partial I sent off to her. So, let's say the most unlikely of unlikely happens and my novel, thriller partial and YA partial are placed, woohoo, right? Well, until it dawns on me that I'll be responsible for a total of three books that need to be finished, and finished right, and whatever edits the completed manuscript will need. I don't know about you, but that seems like a lot of writing. Not that I'm complaining. It actually makes this writing thing seem like a real job.
March 05, 2008: The Forgotten Month
March usually passes without much happening for me and that's OK with me. But this March looks to be different. Even though we're only a few days in, things have happened. Good things. I tweaked my YA proposal, got some serious work done on my next book and should have an official title soon, flexed my puny networking skills to get the word out on More Than This (Touchstone, August 2008) and will be taking part in two events next month, both at local community colleges. If the rest of March passes without anything else happening or going my way, I'll still be pretty happy with March 2008. A person can't ask for much more than that.
March 03, 2008: New Month, Old Responsibilities
I spent the weekend going over my YA proposal and didn't even realize it was, like, a new month until today. So with that done, I'll keep on editing my other proposal and working on my next manuscript that's still due in September and by all rights should be the only thing I should be thinking about.
