October 31, 2006: More to Read

The good folks at LatinoLa.com have posted another one of my essays and have featured it on their front page.

October 25, 2006: Free Stuff

I'm running my very first contest and giving away advance reader copies of UIA. If you want to throw you email into the hat, head over to the Contact page.

October 22, 2006: First Review

Publishers Weekly put me out of my anxious misery one day early by posting Monday's reviews one day early. Its a very exciting time for me, made even more so when I realize that people are really going to read UIA and form their own opinions on what the novel is about. For the full review (edited only to add a dash and fix a typo) will be posted on my blog with my thoughts on it soon.

October 20, 2006: Real News

I spent the last weeks looking for site complementary tissue paper and the perfect mailing boxes to ship my ARCs off to a very lucky few (since I only get a limited number I've had to be very selfish with them), now that they've been delivered I can concentrate on what I should be doing: writing and revising. And as such I've adapted something I wrote for my blog for LatinoLA's Arts & Entertainment section and I'm planning to submit more in the near future. Also, I just found out UIA will be reviewed this coming Monday (October 23rd) in Publisher's Weekly. My first review. Scary stuff.

October 09, 2006: Blogging for Eyeballs

My first effort at guest blogging is now up at Romancing the Blog. Never mind the picture, the camera adds 10 lbs. By the way, I'm more than willing to guest blog, so drop me a note and I'll get cracking...if its a good fit and the writing doesn't interfere with my watching of Project Runway reruns.

October 07, 2006: Purely Business

The first batch of UIA ARCs arrived yesterday. After sharing a moment with the FedEx guy, I went back to watching my Law & Order rerun and he back to his shiny white truck. (I wonder if I'll ever see him again?) Sulay says a whole box of 'em are heading my way. This time via UPS. It's been a while since I've had a visit from the UPS guy. As long as he brings me what I want, FedEx, UPS, USPS, even, I don't care, he's more than welcome to ring my bell.

October 03, 2006: Almost Like the Real Thing

My lovely editor Sulay at Kensington is supposed to receive ARCs this week and will be shipping off my share to me soon. Then it's up to me to do with them as I wish. One will be sent to the library media teacher at Franklin High School where I've been asked to speak to students next year. The rest are earmarked for a group of people I hope will like the novel and spread the word far and wide. And, no, my mom won't be one of them. Like I said, I only get so many copies.

September 27, 2006: Still a Slow Month

The big news is the contact form has been sort of broken all this time, but IS working now. If you've sent any comments or asked to be added to the newsletter list, please resend your info. Or consider yourself luck 'cause there's no way for me to retrieve any data sent before this morning. Oh well.

September 27, 2006: Slow Month

Aside from giving my second manuscript a preemptive polish, the most noteworthy event lately has been that I've finally given in and set up a myspace page. Being that I cancelled my account then reactivated it within a couple hours a few months back, it's been interesting navigating the site. At least I "own" my name and no one can post mean stuff and ugly pictures while pretending to be me, like that's going to happen. Nothing new there, though, and I don't plan to post anything different from what I do here. It's just a networking tool...which is why I have no "friends." I suck at networking.

September 21, 2006: Bonus of Sorts

It turns out UIA will feature a bonus chapter of my second novel, working title: Starting from Scratch. This was a big surprise to me and anyone who reads it and then sticks around for the actual book will see some changes between the two, besides a possible title change. (The fact that the chapter is introduced without a title should have been a hint that the title is not set in stone.)

September 15, 2006: Even More Blurbs

Fellow authors of all strips have been saying such nice things about UIA that I've given their words the special treatment they deserve and put them together into a blurb trailer on the Books page. For those of you who like your blurbs straight, you can find them in all their glory here.

September 12, 2006: Proof

Blurbs are pouring in from my editor, three in the last two days. All have been wonderful and are freaking me out. I asked my editor if I should send a card or something, thanking them for their kind words and help.

September 03, 2006: Proof

My editor sent me a copy of Kensington's January-April 2007 catalogue and UIA is on page eight, the whole page, not a half, a whole damn page. Plus, UIA also has its own official page on Kensington's site. ARCs (Advance Reader Copies) are expected soon and I already have a few people in mind who I want to send them to. (More on this later, depending on what develops.)
