August 2006 News
August 29, 2006: Christmas Comes Early
Latina Magazine has requested a copy of UIA for their December issue. And Stephanie Lehmann has written a lovely blurb for UIA after reading the manuscript on short notice. Thanks, Stephanie!
August 28, 2006: The Dating Game
My editor Sulay has patiently explained to me one of the small mysteries of publishing: Why I have two different release dates. Amazon.com is cleared to start selling copies of Underneath It All on December 26, 2006 while retail stores will be stocking copies starting the second Tuesday of January or thereabouts.
August 25, 2006: Amazonian
It might seem a little early to most (me included) but Underneath It All (ISBN 0758215703 and 352 fun filled pages) is now available for pre-sale at Amazon.com. I hope UIA eventually warrants the concordance and text stats treatment. I never took my SATs (I went the junior college route and then transferred to a four-year for my bachelors) so it would be interesting to find out what my readability and complexity are as a writer (and therefore as a person).
Note: The release date on Amazon says December 26, 2006 not some day in January 2007 as I've been told. I'm checking with my editor to find out if I'll be published a WHOLE year earlier than I thought I would be. (OK, only by six or so days, but I'll take it.)
August 23, 2006: Dog Days
Things are pretty much at a standstill in New York because its, like, August so my agent has wisely decided to take a vacation to gear up to submit manuscripts and pitch proposals in September. My editor at Kensington, though, has not taken a break. Sulay has been working the phones to get the word out on UIA and will be sending out Advance Reader Copies (ARCs) soon to me, magazine editors and book reviewers. So in a couple of weeks I should be holding in my hands roughly what my book will look like when it comes out in January, down to the font and everything. Weird.
August 14, 2006: The Next Option
At my meeting last week with my agent we agreed that the next step for Underneath It All should be signing with a co-agent to represent the film rights. Film agents and literary agents manage to co-exist on some level but they are very different creatures. If it's hard to get a literary agent, it's twice has hard to get a film agent and that's coming from a literary agent who now has to pitch a sold manuscript to a film agent. As a writer I won't be involved in the process other then signing papers when it happens. Fine by me as long as it does happen.
August 06, 2006: Book Teasers
Writer's block is taken to new heights! Or new lows depending on your point of view. Due to some time on my hands I crafted a very remedial book teaser. All by myself. The book teasers are in a .wmv (meaning Windows) format because I couldn't figure out Flash. Imagine that? The first installment, The Father Question, can be seen on the Books page. Look for a new one each week until I run out of ideas when you can then look forward to reruns of your favorite UIA book teasers.
August 04, 2006: A New Blurb
Project Blurb is well underway and today my editor sent me a sweet one from Patrick Sanchez to join the wonderful blurb Alisa Valdes-
Rodriguez
gave me. You can see both on the Books page. I look forward to adding more from some of my favorite authors in the near future.
August 03, 2006: Networking
In my quest to do something else besides twiddle my thumbs, I've put up a page on Publisher's Marketplace in hopes of garnering the interest of film and production companies. Never mind that my user name is my nickname, it's still all me. Please make it worth my $20 a month and visit my new Publisher's Marketplace page.
