April 29, 2007: In the News
Daniel Olivas was kind enough to send me the link to the El Paso Times story/review running in today's paper. He writes about UIA and my path to publication. He also has some lovely quotes from Sulay Hernandez, who was my editor at Kensington. Now comes the race to contact my aunt and cousin in El Paso and get them to send me the hard copy before they recycle it.
April 25, 2007: The Business of Writing
Slowly but surely Missed Connections, the title of the third book I'm working on, is making its way through the system and (hopefully) getting closer to finding a (publishing) home. The next few weeks will either be really hectic (for my agent and editors who like what they read) and real torture for me as I wait to hear the fate of Missed Connections. Oh well, it beats my last job where I had to write about adventure sports.
April 22, 2007: Creative Procrastination
In a fit of wanting to put off what I'm supposed to be doing, I've fiddled around with the movie maker program on my computer and put up book teasers on the Books page for both Underneath It All and Life Over Easy. Nothing fancy, or new, but I figure if I got such great blurbs I might as well showcase them in the manner they deserve.
April 19, 2007: Sleep and Work, Sleep and Work
And I'm not complaining. A month long bout of insomnia has finally gone away and, after two days of writer's block, I've been writing right and left. Lots of things in the works right now, so I'm hoping to have some sale news in the near future, but right now I'm concentrating on my work, a few speaking engagements and not letting myself get distracted by stuff I can't control. At least that's what I keep telling myself.
April 15, 2007: In the News
The San Bernardino Sun and Inland Valley Daily Bulletin are running stories online and in their Sunday edition about Hispanic Lifestyle's 9th Annual Latina Conference (and I'm quoted!).
April 14, 2007: UIA in The Washington Post
You know I'm going to use Claudia Deane's mini-review of UIA in the Book World section of Sunday's Washington Post as a big fat reason for a nice dinner out.
April 10, 2007: Back to Work
I'll be back at my desk tomorrow morning, but just thought I'd make up for taking a long nap after getting home from the airport to update the news section of my neglected site. I signed books all around San Francisco and marveled at the new (to me) San Francisco Shopping Center. I'm also gearing up for Hispanic Lifestyle's Latina Conference on Friday for a panel talk and book signing (50 confrimed copies will be available for purchase) and meeting other Latinas from and around the Ontario area.
April 04, 2007: Short Ends
I've finished my first short story (it's a Mrs. Mayor story before she was Mrs. Mayor) and, if all goes well, it should be available as an Amazon Short in a few weeks. At .49 cents you can't beat the price and since it's a short, it won't be a huge investment of time, something you can read on a break. It was a lot of fun to write and it's opened up all sort of ideas for me to explore some of my favorite UIA characters. If there's a character you'd like to read more about, don't be shy, let me know. Ideas and inspiration come from the unlikeliest places. (I once got an idea for a book at the supermarket while standing in the frozen foods section.)
April 02, 2007: In the Works
I'm gearing up to send out this season's newsletter (if you'd like to receive it sign up here) and hope to include some good news on my third book and other projects I'm working on. I'll definitely make sure to mention the growing list of venues I'll be speaking at in the coming weeks and any new mentions and reviews of Underneath It All. April is off to a good start, I think.
